The role of Electronic Design Engineer is based in the busy design engineering department, taking a key role in developing new custom and modified designs, delivering the product roadmap and maintaining the current product range.
A passion for engineering and the enthusiasm to communicate this across the organisation is desirable. The JD below is comprehensive but in summary your CV MUST demonstrate a solid understanding of analogue electronics, control loops and power supply stability and of course a working knowledge of PCB schematic and layout tools, your CV must also show that you have taken the lead on previous engineering projects from concept to production. The specific responsibilities of this flexible role may alter from time to time in order to meet the needs of the customer, but responsibilities will include (or be equivalent in nature to) those listed below:
Development of concepts and designs to meet customer and/or internal requirements, taking the product through design and development to productionModification and enhancement of existing power supply designs to meet customer requirementsDesign and test of new high voltage power suppliesDesign and build of test equipmentDocumentation of workCircuit schematic capture and layout of PCBs (both low and high voltage stages) using PC software tools.Involvement in component selection and component obsolescence issuesProduct safety assessments and approval liaisonCustomer application support
Degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering or close derivative at 2:1 or above preferredDegree in Physics (or similar) or HNC/HND in Electronics with significant applicable knowledge and experience would be acceptableThorough understanding of analogue electronics, control loops and power supply stabilityDetailed knowledge of high voltage power suppliesThorough understanding of low noise analog circuitsUnderstanding of digital circuits, low noise signal conversion and embedded systems
To be proficient and have proven experience in relevant electronic designExperience as lead engineer on at least three projects, taking the project from concept to productionSwitch mode and linear power supply design experienceExperience of design for manufacture and design for testExperience of embedded systems and use of microcontrollersFamiliarity with simulation tools & test methods for transient analysis, loop stability and frequency response analysisPractice in working with PCB CAD and 2D CAD systems and some experience of 3D CADConversant with product safety and EMC
